I've always been a bit crafty. Ive done flower arrangements for weddings, etc, I've made numerous wreaths, grave covers etc. I've painted mason jars etc, but painting rocks is by far my favorite painting to do. I started painting rocks in 2007 when we lived in Albuquerque, NM. I saw a craft show on the Telly, how to paint rocks & the painting began. I had rocks everywhere as all the yards are done in desert landscaping all I had to do was step outside. I've taught myself to do rock art on slate. That's fun also. I can copy just about anything so if I'm not on pintrest I am looking at photos I've taken to copy. I am living with an autoimmune disease so I can't do a lot of the physical things I used to do. I don't get out much to hide my rocks but when I do I hide tons of them. Painting rocks gives me a chance to share a part of, " Me" with others. I was introduced to NEOR in January by two great girls who work at Tri-county hematology & oncology. I am so Happy to be a part of this group. I love the kindness & positive attitude this group believes in. I've painted almost a thousand rocks....aka, SMILES, but haven't found any so far. I get so much pleasure from painting & hiding. The admins who do their best to keep this going are wonderful & amazing.

For the week of June 11, 2017, Northeast Ohio Rocks! Honors Ashley Wallace as Artist of the Week. Below Ashley shares her Northeast Ohio Rocks! story with us.
I started being creative at a very young age, (which i believe i got from my grandmother, my best friend) from scrapbooking to re purposing furniture to everything in between... except for painting! I always wanted to be a good painter, but could never get it right.. In my eyes anyway. So last August my daughter and a few of her friends were walking through our small town late one night and we started seeing these adorable painted rocks all over. We weren't exactly sure what they were at first. After reading the back and posting the picture of all our finds that night (we found a whopping 13 that first night) we were absolutely hooked! Since that day we have become constant painters and hiders, it has become part of our schedules and our lifestyle. If I had to estimate I would guess that we have found and rehid about 200 and have painted about 700-800. I have slowly been teaching myself over the months and I am quite pleased with the progress I've made. I feel like a lot of different things inspire me and decide what I'm going to to paint depending on what I feel like that day, or what I'm going through or what's going on around me. But one of my favorites to paint is snoopy. I have enjoyed these rocks and NEO to a point they have become therapeutic and at times I've needed it the most. They have definitely become apart of our lives and I couldn't imagine life without this fun hobby. As a family It brings us closer, we get more exercise and we get to use our imaginations! Thanks so much to everyone on this page for being a part of this awesome random act of kindness! I hope you all find such joy in it as we have.
For the week of June 18, 2017, Northeast Ohio Rocks! honors Kelly Guy as Artist of the Week. Below Kelly shares her Northeast Ohio Rocks! story with us.
My name is Kelly. I have loved art since I was a little girl and have always been creative. I started painting with my mom as a young girl. My favorite things to paint are, dots and Mandalas because they are a challenge and keep me focused. I also enjoy painting animals and quotes. You never know what someone else may be going thru in life. The reason I started painting was because of my depression from MS. Painting takes my mind off things and puts me in a different state of mind. I enjoy the group because of the reactions on people's faces and how much joy they show when finding a rock. Especially while going thru hard times and just needing something to uplift them. I have painted 562 rocks, hid over 300 and I have found 14.
